Supplements: The Short List Worth Considering
7 min read · Reviewed by Zin, Doctor | Nutrition Consultant | Lifestyle & Wellness Coach
Most of the shelf is unnecessary. A handful of products have real evidence behind them — here they are, with the honest caveats.
Start with the food-first question
A supplement is worth discussing only when a nutrient gap is likely and food cannot close it practically. Always review supplements with your physician, especially alongside prescribed medication.
The well-supported few
Creatine monohydrate for strength and power output. Vitamin D where sun exposure is low, especially in northern Europe in winter. Protein powder as a convenience food, not a magic one. Caffeine for performance, dosed and timed carefully.
The frequently oversold
Fat burners, detox blends, testosterone boosters, and most 'greens' powders lack the evidence their marketing implies. Money spent there almost always outperforms in the vegetable aisle.
