Eight Nutrition Myths That Refuse to Die

Eating after 8pm, detox teas, carbs at night, and other claims that do not survive contact with the evidence.
Myth: carbohydrates at night make you gain fat
Total daily energy determines weight change. Trials that shift carbohydrates to the evening show no fat-gain penalty, and some show improved sleep and adherence.
Myth: you need a detox
Your liver and kidneys perform this function continuously. No commercial detox product has demonstrated added clearance of any named toxin in controlled trials.
Myth: eating frequently raises metabolism
The thermic effect of food scales with how much you eat, not how many sittings you split it into. Choose the meal frequency you can adhere to.
Myth: fruit sugar is a problem
Whole fruit arrives with fibre, water, and micronutrients, and intake is consistently associated with better health outcomes. Fruit juice is a different food.
